Shiver me timbers, the theme for MOGA'11 is PIRATES! This year, the Midwest Open Geocaching Adventure travels to Rend Lake in Illinois. The Army Corps of Engineers, SLAGA, Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park, Rend Lake Resort, and the MOGA staff welcome you to another action-packed weekend, where participants race from waypoint to waypoint on foot in search of MOGA booty. But MOGA isn't just for competitors -- there are also activities geared towards families and the laid-back cacher. We will have kids' caches, a poker run, not to mention 100+ permanent caches that will be released at Rend Lake for this year's event. You can geocache at your own pace, or you can enter the individual or team competitions for a chance to win a custom-made gold, silver, or bronze trackable geocoin!
SLAGA's very own mega-event takes place the weekend of March 25th through 27th. There are registration packages for every budget, including a FREE registration, as well as packages that include swag, t-shirts, and meals. Remember, pre-registering at www.mogageo.com is the only way to purchase meals for this event. And by signing up for a registration package early, you are guaranteed to get your hands on the much sought-after MOGA geocoin! The deadline to pre-register is March 18th. Ye be warned!

Bring your favorite dish as we get together for a meet-and-greet on Saturday, January 29th, at Jefferson Barracks Park to focus on getting to know each other and the many new cachers in the area. Starting at 11:00 am, we will have a silent auction, games, good food, geocaching milestone awards, and will swap caching stories inside the heated Grant Pavilion. This is also a good opportunity to invite local land managers that you have personally worked with. Have them come out for some food and friendship. As before, several of the St. Louis County Park rangers have already accepted our invitation. Please contact your local land manager or parks department and invite them to come out. We will also have a drop-off spot for those wanting to donate canned goods to a local food pantry.

Join us bright and early on Saturday, January 1st at Golden Corral in Alton, Illinois. Golden Corral has a great breakfast buffet where they will make omelets to order at the omelet bar. They also have fresh fruit and almost any kind of breakfast food you would want. Breakfast starts at 8:00 am, and afterward, we will focus on three 2001 caches (GCE23, GC133A, GC168F) and a new earthcache (GC2K7X4) in Pere Marquette State Park. This caching trip is extra and is not required in order for you to log the meet & greet event. If you're not familiar with the area, Pere Marquette is 17 miles WNW of the restaurant. Terrain will range from 2.5 to 3.5, so be prepared to do some hiking! There is also a great opportunity to see some bald eagles feeding along the Illinois River adjacent to the park. See GC2JXTN for more details.
